Student Scholarships
Local Scholarship Fund The Mammoth Lakes Foundation is pleased to offer college scholarships for high school graduates and residents of Mono County. The Local Scholarship Fund provides scholarships for residents of Mono County who wish to further their education at the Mammoth Campus of Cerro Coso Community College in Mammoth Lakes.
Any graduate of Mono County high schools and current residents who have lived in the county for at least the past two years are eligilible to apply. The scholarship covers the cost of enrollment fees and books for each scholarship recipient for up to sixty units or two years.
"It is our intention to help as many students with financial aid as we can," said Evan Russell, Foundation President. The Local Scholarship Fund is made possible through private donations to the Mammoth Lakes Foundation and through the Tom Dempsey Scholarship Endowment Fund. So far the program is off to an amazing start with many private parties and professional organizations stepping up to help. Contributions of any amount are welcomed, and donations are fully tax deductible.
Robyn R. Noll Memorial Scholarships There are two scholarships available for students who wish to pursue a career in nursing and journalism. The nursing scholarship was set up in 2000 to honor the late Robyn R. Noll, a long-time second-homeowner of Mammoth Lakes and a well-respected and dedicated nurse. This scholarship is awarded to a student in good academic standing, who will begin their higher education at the Mammoth campus of the Eastern Sierra College Center and who shows a financial need for assistance.
The scholarship in journalism was more recently set up in 2004 and both consist of a one-time award of $1,000 for payment of books and fees. The recipient must be enrolled as a full-time student (12 or more units) at the Mammoth campus.
Chuck Tallman Scholarship: A scholarship was recently set up in memory of Chuck Tallman, husband of Roxanne who loved the sport of ski racing. The scholarship is open to any local resident of Mono county who is pursuing the sport of ski racing and their Associate degree at the Mammoth Campus of Cerro Coso Community College. Financial assistance covers tuition fees and books for a semester.
